A suivre:

Vanguard by Sigil (une partie des designers de EQ)

Sigil's epic MMORPG is clearly being aimed at the hard core gamers. They are developing a huge, complex world that will, not surprisingly considering the programmers involved, take MMORPG gaming back to the core concepts of the original Everquest. I personally think this will be a difficult achievement to pull off given the current game market, but Sigil has both the financial backing and the talent to perhaps pull it off. If they do, this will clearly be a blockbuster game.

Conan Online by Funcom (AO)

For the first five levels you are a “commoner”, without class, but of Cimmerian, Aquilonian or Stygian origin. Then at level five you choose your base class from four archetypes: Mage, Priest, Thief or Warrior.

At level twenty you get further three to four class selections for each archetype (14 in total), which branches again into two specialized classes for each selection at level sixty.

Additionally you can pick one of four distinct professions at level 40, which gives an additional, parallel, path of development. You can be a Craftsman (making things), a Master (earning you a full time squire), a Commander (adept at multiplayer gameplay) or a General - an expert on siege gameplay.

par ailleurs, E3 news:

The big announcement of the day came from Mythic, who announced they had gained the rights to produce Warhammer Online. We were at the press conference where they made the announcement (they lured us there by offering free beer). The only question I asked is whether this was the same version of Warhammer Online that had been shown off and on at E3 for several years, and had really been showing its age (OK it kind of sucked). We were assured that version was being trashed and that Mythic was starting the development process from scratch. So basically, right now, they have a name and little else. Still, it is a well known name and Mythic certainly knows how to make a good game.

May 19, 2005 - The famed developers of Dark Age of Camelot have announced that they've secured the publishing rights to create console and PC games based on the popular Warhammer franchise. While this is definitely great news for fans awaiting a digital edition of the series, the first PC game won't emerge until 2007.

"I have always been a big fan of Games Workshop and Warhammer and I am thrilled that we are now able to work on one of the world's greatest and most enduring fantasy gaming brands," said Mark Jacobs, CEO and president of Mythic Entertainment, Inc. "Our goal for this first of what we hope will be many Warhammer-based games is to create the single-greatest RvR-based MMORPG in the industry."

"Warhammer fans around the world can be assured that our new partnership with Mythic, a company with fantastic credentials in delivering great online games, will
result in a truly compelling online experience," said Andy Jones, CEO of Games Workshop's Entertainment and Media Division. "We are really looking forward to working closely with people who share our passion both for the world of Warhammer and for making games of the highest quality."

MYTHIC ENTERTAINMENT met en "stand-by" le développement de IMPERATOR pour se consacrer à ceux de WARHAMMER ONLINE et de l'addon de DAOC.

Although the press release does not say cancelation, it sure sounded like it. Today Mythic Entertainment announced that Imperator has been postponed so that they team may focus on Warhammer Online and the next expansion to Dark Age of Camelot: "Darkness Rising".

Pirates of the Burning Sea
To Support Player-Modeled Ships

(SEATTLE) Online game players with a talent for 3D modeling have a new way to play: in their own ship! Flying Lab Software is accepting player-created sailing ships for use in Pirates of the Burning Sea, their forthcoming massively multiplayer online game. Today the first such ship, a Dutch yacht modeled by Age of Sail enthusiast Marion “van Ghent” Edwards, is up on display at the Pirates of the Burning Sea website, along with an article by Edwards exploring the history and use of this vessel. In addition, Flying Lab has created a new discussion forum on its web site for those interested in contributing their own ship models to the game.

Only the best player-created ships will pass peer review and join the library of gorgeous ships already in the game. Flying Lab’s new ship-building community forum will provide a great opportunity for amateur modelers to improve their skills and collaborate in a supportive environment.

NEOCRON2
Planfile #3
Date: Jul 18, 2005

The latest planfile is out from the folks behind Neocron 2. It talks about their future plans. One especially significant note is the revelation that they have ceased outsourcing much of their community (they cut ties with Alchemic Dream, who ran their French server) and marketing (they are handling this internally).
